Phalaenopsis Orchids

Enjoy the beauty and elegance of orchids in your home.

Phalaenopsis orchids, or "moth orchids" are some of the easiest for the beginner. Their easy culture and long lasting blooms make them a popular choice. They will thrive in mid to warm temperatures and how light. Here are some tips for success...

Light: 6 hours of filtered sun or bright shade daily
Water: Keep the bark planting mix moist, but not soggy. Drain excess water from saucer. Always use distilled water or rain water, as minerals in tap or well water will damage your orchid
Humidity: Orchids should have 50% humidity. If your home is dry, use humidity trays.
Temperature: Daytime 70 degrees, nighttime 65 degrees.
Fertilizer: Fertilize weekly with a dilute (1/2 recommended strength) fertilizer solution for orchids. Orchids planted in bark require a high ratio of nitrogen to phosphorus and potassium (30-10-10 or 15-5-5).
